Unconventional start with an unexpected shift

From his beginnings as a product manager to his current role as Vice President, Pharma Trade Relations and Contracting, where he leads a team of more than a hundred professionals, Josh Parker’s journey in the specialty pharmacy world has not been a conventional one. With a degree in finance, he started his career in an entirely different industry as a financial analyst. However, after six years in finance, life had other plans. In 2008, he found himself at a crossroads, which ultimately led him to make a bold career move into what would become a pivotal professional experience.

Turning determination into excellence

With a newfound perspective, Parker recalls this time in his life as one of profound change. The decision to leave finance for something completely unknown was a leap of faith, driven by a desire for meaningful work and personal growth. Regardless of the industry learning curve ahead of him, Parker embraced the experience enthusiastically and wholeheartedly.

It was also during this time that he learned to lean on and trust in the mentorship of seasoned leaders and other colleagues at Accredo. These leaders not only instilled deep understanding of how critical a specialty pharmacy is to the patients, prescribers, and partners it serves, but they also taught Parker the value of building relationships in business and how that translates into achieving professional and personal goals.

Fostering a culture where positive impact for patients takes priority

Fast forward to the present, where Parker oversees a multifaceted team responsible for business development, account management, contracting, implementation, and data reporting. The teams under his direction partner with a manufacturer from the very beginning of the relationship through ongoing day-to-day management.

Despite the diverse responsibilities, Parker instills a singular focus among his team: put patients first. He finds the most joy collaborating with manufacturer clients to develop new programs and working with other Accredo teams to put clinical solutions in place to best serve patients. Whether it is a contract negotiation or implementation of a new therapy, every decision is made with a patient's well-being in mind.

Leadership is about authenticity

For Parker, leadership isn’t about authority; it's about authenticity and building meaningful relationships. He emphasizes that every member of his team plays a crucial role in driving success for Accredo’s stakeholders, regardless of the team member’s specific function.

His leadership philosophy is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It revolves around empowering individuals, fostering a culture of accountability, and prioritizing the needs of patients above all else. One of Parker's proudest professional achievements lies in his journey to leading a team of individuals who feel truly responsible for the needs of the patients Accredo serves and act accordingly every day.

Beyond business to the simple life

Amidst the hustle and bustle of corporate life, Parker's true escape lies in the tranquility of his family farm in Alabama. Whether it's tending to the land, caring for the animals, or simply enjoying Southern hospitality with his father, Parker finds respite in the slower pace of rural life.

Additionally, Parker is a devoted sports fan, bleeding crimson for his alma mater, the University of Alabama. As a season ticket holder for Bama football and basketball games, most weekends revolve around cheering on his alma mater.
